Stop Spreading Bacteria in Your Home With This Recalled Cleaner

Colgate-Palmolive is voluntarily recalling 4.9 million bottles of Fabuloso multi-purpose cleaner that may contain bacteria. The company says it is recalling some multi-purpose cleaners “because no preservative was added in the prescribed amounts during manufacture. With an inappropriate preservative, there is a risk of bacterial growth in recalled products.”

Cleaning products can promote the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Pseudomonas fluorescens , bacteria that occur naturally in soil and water. If a person with a weak immune system, external medical devices, or underlying lung disease is exposed to it, they are at risk of infection, which may require medical attention, according to the recall. Bacteria can enter the body through inhalation, eye contact, or through breaks in the skin. People with healthy immune systems are usually not affected by bacteria. No diseases were reported by the reporter.
