12 Spin-Offs That Are Better Than the Original

Just when you thought we last heard Antonio Banderas’ sexy feline voice, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (Antonio Banderas) side chapter is getting a late sequel, 11 years after the last movie. featuring this character and was nominated for an Oscar for his efforts. There is real competition this year for the best animated feature Oscar – I wouldn’t recommend fucking Marcel Sink – but given its strong critical and box office performance, The Cat is a likely winner. This feat is even more impressive when you remember that it’s a spin-off of Shrek, which won the first Academy Award for an animated film back in 2001 and also aged like milk. The return of Puss in Boots, on the other hand, seems to be doing something really new, at least with its engaging Spider-Verse- inspired animation style:

It’s not the only spin-off that threatens to unseat the original that spawned it. Spin-offs are not sequels – they usually promote a minor character to the main role or introduce new characters and storylines into the original universe.
