What’s New at Paramount+ in February 2023
The entire gang is here for the third and final season of Star Trek: Picard (February 16) as the spiritual revival of Paramount+’s The Next Generation finally continues and gives fans what they’ve wanted all along, bringing on board the most the rest of the characters. Bridge crew from the good old Enterprise NCC-1701-D, plus Seven of Nine for some reason.
For the first two seasons, Picard seemed like a good hook to me – Patrick Stewart as an aging Admiral Picard trying to make sense of his legacy – in search of a show. The storylines felt sloppy (the Borg are back!) or arbitrary (the less said about the twists and turns in the season 1 finale, the better), and overall it seemed less confident, bold, or substantial than its contemporaries, Discovery and Strange New Worlds. “. . But I still have a huge affection for the TNG team, and all my favorites are back to finally say goodbye to the franchise (for real this time), so I’ll be watching. Anyway, this has to be a better swan song than Nemesis.
Meanwhile, if romantic entertainment isn’t your thing, Paramount+’s original At Midnight premieres before Valentine’s Day on February 10, which tells the story of a famous actress (Monica Barbaro) who falls in love with an ordinary hotel manager (Diego Boneta). It’s like Notting Hill , but none of the stars are actually famous.
Here’s everything else coming to Paramount+ in February. For all the Tàr fans who are hoping this may finally be Todd Field’s Oscar year , please note that his first film as director , In the Bedroom, will be streaming on the service on February 1st. ( Just put away the good china first .)
