In the United States, books, films, songs, and other works published in 1927 may be freely distributed, remastered, mixed, and otherwise used without fear of legal consequences, as can literary works by authors who died before 1952. Because it’s still possible to make money on old IP, it’s harder than making everything public domain over time.
