You Must Participate in Keurig’s $10 Million K-Cup Settlement

It’s been nearly 20 years since Keurig machines and K-Cup cups have become staples in countless American homes (although they’ve been available for offices since the 1990s ). While some find single-use capsules convenient, their relatively high cost and the mediocre taste of the drinks they produce make them unappealing to other consumers.

And then there’s the environmental impact of all the stacks of little plastic containers that have piled up in landfills for years. That’s a different story — and the reason for the class-action lawsuit against Keurig that the company settled earlier this year. Here’s how to find out if it belongs to you, and if so, how to get your money.

Why is a class action lawsuit filed against Kerig?

According to the original complaint , filed back in 2018, a group of consumers (plaintiffs) allege that Keurig engaged in “illegal, unfair and misleading business practices” when they advertised and labeled their K-Cups as recyclable.

In reality, however, most municipal recycling facilities are not equipped to handle such small items, so they still end up in landfills, the plaintiffs allege. Although Kerig did not admit to committing any wrongdoing, the company agreed to a $10 million settlement back in February .

Who has the right to claim money from the settlement?

You are considered a class member in a class action if you purchased K-Cup disposable coffee pods that were labeled “recyclable” between June 8, 2016 and August 8, 2022 in the United States for personal use. , for family or household purposes, according to a dedicated lawsuits website .

How much money can class members get?

Those who can provide proof of their purchase in the form of a receipt, email order, or proof of delivery are eligible to receive $3.50 per 100 capsules purchased. The maximum total payment is $36 in cash per family and the minimum total payment is $6. Even if you don’t have proof of purchase, you may still be eligible for a $5 cash payment (per family).
