Apple Music Finally Has a Version of “Spotify Wrap”
I love Apple Music, but I confess that every year around this time, I envy the fact that everyone has a Spotify Wrap. Apple Music lets me pretend I have sophisticated taste with a carefully curated library, while Spotify lets its customers enjoy the embarrassment of their real listening history. I also want to be at peace. Luckily, it looks like Apple Music is giving us a modest pie this holiday season with its own version of Spotify Wrapped.
In the past , Apple Music had year-end reports available on the Apple Music Replay service. You may have seen this feature before in an app that displays as a playlist of your top 100 songs of the year. But in recent years, Apple has expanded this feature by adding a web app with additional yearly statistics. Now it’s better than ever.
To get started, open Apple Music on your device of choice, then go to the Browse tab. Here you should see a new Replay option. Tap it and Apple Music will redirect you to the official Replay website . Sign in with the Apple ID you use for Apple Music, then allow Replay to download. Once this is done, you will have access to a summary of your musical year.
Scroll down this page and you’ll see the following stats: how many songs you listened to, including the top 10 of the year, and how many times each was played; how many artists you listened to, including the top 10, and how many minutes you played each artist; how many albums have you played, which have made the top ten and how many plays have you contributed to each of them; how many playlists you listened to and how long each; your top radio stations and how many minutes you spent with each; and finally your official Apple Music Replay playlist listing the top 100 songs of the year.
Sure, these stats are fun to look at, but that’s not all Replay has to offer this year. The best part is the new Highlight Reel, which makes it easy to share Spotify Wrapped-like stats on your social media. The video offers a fun graphic with the stats we just looked at above and more, including the total minutes you listened to Apple Music; your best song, artist and album; and your best genres of the year, all accompanied by music from your replay. Each slide has a Share button that makes it easy to save the slide to your device for sharing.
It’s a bit odd that Apple Music doesn’t let you use this new Replay feature in the app. Right now, it’s only available in the Apple Music web app, when it would be much more convenient to use it in the main app itself. At least Apple is pointing you to the Replay web app in Apple Music instead of forcing you to find out about it somewhere else. You can still access Apple Music Replay playlists from the Apple Music app, including Replay playlists for each year of the platform subscription.
