Tyson Recalls Almost 100,000 Units of This Ground Beef

According to the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), Tyson Fresh Meats, Inc. recalled about 93,700 pounds of raw ground beef due to possible “foreign matter” contamination.

The problem was discovered when customers who bought Tyson Fresh Meat products complained to the meat company about finding “mirror” material in beef. Tyson then reported the complaints to FSIS. The recall applies to Tyson ground beef products manufactured on November 2, 2022 specifically at retailers located in Texas. According to FSIS, there have been no official reports of adverse reactions from customers consuming contaminated beef.

Which Tyson beef products are being reviewed?

Three raw ground beef products are subject to recall and carry the business number “EST. 245E” on the seam of the forelock. You can find the institution number under the barcode on the left side of the official label . The following are the withdrawn full product names:

  • 10 lb slices containing “Hill Country Fare Ground Beef, 73% Lean / 27% Fat, Best before or Freeze: November 25, 2022.”
  • 5 lb slices containing “Hill Country Fare Ground Beef, 73% lean / 27% fat, Best before or Freeze: November 25, 2022.”
  • 5 lb chunks containing “HEB Ground Chuck Ground Beef 80% Lean / 20% Fat.”

What if you have beef?

Be sure to check your fridge and freezer to make sure your Tyson beef matches the recall. If you have used the product and are concerned about injury or illness, you should contact your healthcare professional. FSIS recommends that recalled beef be discarded or returned to the place of purchase. FSIS will update the list of affected retail stores on its website .
