Distract Your Cat With These Video Game Apps

If you happen to be a cat person, you know that entertaining them is no easy task. Sure, cats spend most of their day sleeping, but during their waking hours, they’re screaming for food, climbing onto a keyboard in the middle of a Zoom meeting, or running around the house. Given that these shenanigans inevitably happen when you don’t have the time or patience for it, it’s always good to find new ways to occupy them. That’s why there are gaming apps for cats – they can fish, pounce on lasers, or hunt squirrels from the comfort of their own home.

While the selection of cat games is still quite small, oddly enough, there are a few good ones you should try out, most of which are either free or cheap.

Cat fishing 2

This free app, available for iOS and Android , will make your cat “hunt” fish in the pond with cat-friendly sounds. This includes the ability to personalize the fish and the pond, which seems important.

Games for cats!

This free, iOS-only app brings together six games: Fishing, Laser Pointers, Mouse Chasing, Bird Catching, Squirrel Hunting and Fly Frenzy. In other words, there is something here for every type of cat.

Cat one 2

Cat Alone 2 , the sequel to Cat Alone , is a free app available for iOS and Android . Cat Alone 2 offers eight levels for your cat, including red light, spider, feather, mouse, dandelion seeds, water drop, fish, and firefly. It also offers a selfie mode that allows you to take pictures of your ferocious hunter in action.

cat playground

This Android -only app costs $1.99 and lets your cat chase a mouse, laser pointer, or fish. Although it’s a paid app, it has the advantage of being ad-free, which reduces the risk of your cat accidentally clicking on a link.

How to get your cat to (really) play the damn game

Given the opposite nature of cats who are willing to do anything but what you actually want, getting them to play a game app can seem difficult at best and impossible at worst. Try suggesting a game on an iPad , as the large screen size encourages more games, and dim the lights so they can see the graphics better. You’ll also want to have a screen protector to avoid scratches and paw prints that can damage the screen. It also helps to be patient as there is a good chance you will ignore it one day but enjoy it the next day.
