How to Watch Two Americans Do Their First Spacewalk
While we wait for the launch of NASA’s Artemis I lunar rocket (maybe) this week , there’s another cosmic event to watch out for: Two American astronauts aboard the International Space Station are doing their first spacewalk on Tuesday, 15 november.
NASA astronauts Josh Kassada and Frank Rubio leave the space station to place mounting hardware for solar arrays that will be installed outside the ISS during several planned spacewalks in the coming months. Here’s how to watch live.
How to Watch a NASA Spacewalk
The live EVA will begin at 6:30 a.m. ET Tuesday, November 1 on NASA TV , the NASA app , and the NASA website . At 8 a.m. ET, the astronauts will leave the space station’s airlock to begin their installation mission. The event is expected to last approximately seven hours. The broadcast is expected to include footage from helmet cameras, as well as live commentary and broadcasts from both the astronauts and Mission Control. According to NASA, Kassada will be wearing a spacesuit with red stripes, while Rubio’s spacesuit won’t have any markings (in case you want to tell them apart).
NASA has scheduled two additional spacewalks for Nov. 28 and Dec. 1, although details of which astronauts will do what and when have yet to be announced. The last spacewalk took place back in March .
Artemis I launch update
After several frustrating delays, the long-awaited Artemis I lunar rocket could finally take off early Wednesday (November 16) with a two-hour launch window starting at 1:04 am ET. A few maintenance issues remain, but NASA is expected to provide an update on Monday afternoon. If this Wednesday doesn’t crash, the backup dates are November 19th and 25th.
