Update Your Boring Bathroom Mirror

Even in bathroom renovations, the mirror is often overlooked. Outdated tiles and fixtures can be replaced, but the usual but functional building-grade mirror often remains. Here are some ways to update your boring mirror without spending a lot of time and money on the project.

How to update a boring bathroom mirror

Regular building-grade bathroom mirrors were probably the cheapest option available when your home was built (or refurbished/turned over). These are usually simple rectangular mirror pieces without a frame or frame that are simply attached to the wall.

They get the job done but do little to add to the decor of the room. Here are some ways to change this:

Add frame

The most common way to update a build-grade bathroom mirror is to add some sort of frame. The best part is that there is no need to remove the mirror – you can simply place your “frame” around the mirror and attach it to the wall, either in whole or in parts.

There are a few different approaches you can take, depending on the size of your mirror, but these step-by-step instructions will help you create a basic frame.

Use crown molding

For a more classic, formal look, consider using crown molding around your bathroom mirror. Buy a piece from the hardware store that is slightly longer than the top of your mirror. Then cut out simple pieces of wood for the other three sides and finish them off with a thin plank that is slightly longer than the bottom of the mirror. These instructions will show you what to do.

Add artificial greenery or flowers

This won’t work for every type of décor, but those looking for a more boho or rustic vibe may want to frame the bathroom mirror with faux leaves, greenery, and flowers.

The process is relatively simple, but before you get started, you can do a test run on a small piece of cardboard to nail the look you want. Then simply attach the flowers and foliage to the outside edge of the mirror with a hot glue gun . You also don’t have to frame the entire mirror, as in this example , where greenery oozes out of one corner.
