Use This Extension to Search Google Flights for Who Has the Most Legroom
I think I hate flying. I don’t hate traveling . Only flight and everything connected with it. Security lines, the agony of boarding, and the most uncomfortable seats you’ll ever pay a few hundred dollars for to spend a few hours in. Anything you can do to make your time in the air a little better is worth it.
Enter your new best friend: the Google Chrome extension for leg lengthening in flight. This utility has been developed for the sole purpose of ranking different flight options by the amount of legroom each provides. You can still take into account other metrics such as flight times, delays, and price, but other things being equal, you can choose the flight that gives you the most room to stretch.
This hack was brought to our attention by Zachary Barrabel via TikTok. In his video , he demonstrates how the Google Flights Legroom extension installed on Chrome automatically adds this information to search results. The extension even extends to business class, so you can see which seats allow you to lie flat and which only allow you to lie upright.
How to use legroom for Google Flights to stretch out on your next trip
I tried the extension for myself and it seems to work as advertised. Once you’ve added it to Chrome, go to Google Flights and search for the trip you’re interested in. When the results appear in the popup, you’ll see legroom next to each option. As you can see from my results, the extension highlights the best options in green numbers, the middle options in gray, and the worst options in red. (Legroom for Google Flights confirms the Spirit ‘s seating arrangement is far from ideal.)
The great thing about this extension is that it’s a “set it and forget it” situation. I’m sure the next time I go to book a flight, I won’t think about legroom, only to be pleasantly surprised to see those green, red, and gray numbers in search results. Is 33 inches of legroom still cramped? Of course. But it’s definitely better than 28 inches.
