What’s New in Prime Video in November 2022
Delightful: Married actors John Krasinski and Emily Blunt are getting their respective series on Prime Video this holiday season. The third season of Krasinski’s Jack Ryan will air just before Christmas, while Blunt gets a slot before Thanksgiving in The English (November 11), a Tarantino-style revenge thriller set in the American West in the late 19th century. .
Blunt plays a resentful mother who teams up with Eli Whipp (Chuske Spencer, better known as a member of the Twilight wolf pack), a Native American and ex-trooper, to hunt down the man she blames for her son’s death. The trailer promises internal bloodshed, delivered if not firmly, then at least a little bit on the cheek: cool poses, black humor, blood spatter and ironic humor in abundance.
The show comes from British director and actor Hugo Bleek, who has a long resume to match his classy name, although I haven’t personally heard of any of his shows. More familiar is the supporting cast, full of a slew of “hey, that’s that guy” cast from England and Ireland, including Ralph Spall, Stephen Rea, Toby Jones and Ciaran Hands. There is probably at least one other woman there too. On the same day, Amazon will also launch “relationship detective” Mammals , a six-episode miniseries about a famous chef whose world comes crashing down when he learns something shocking about his wife. Apparently, knowing what happens after the first six minutes would be a huge spoiler, which I find intriguing. The presence of the extremely annoying starring James Corden, to a lesser extent. However, the vague but enticing trailer and the presence of Sally Hawkins give me cautious optimism.
If you haven’t had your fill of Harry Styles lately (an exciting and then annoying new single! ” Don’t Worry Darling ” drama ! “Special Salad Dressing” fiasco!) get ready for a wave…however much of it when the Prime premieres ” My Cop ” will take place on November 4th. It’s a solid drama about a closeted British cop, played by Stiles, who has an affair with a schoolteacher in the 50s; The Independent called his performance “criminally bad,” which is a pretty good phrase.
Fans of comedies that you probably won’t see in theaters (mostly because Hollywood no longer releases them in theaters) but would love to catch them streaming should celebrate the November 18 debut of The People We Hate at the Wedding . about a family of misfits (including Kristen Bell, Allison Janney and Ben Platt) who travel to London for a wedding and appear to be Ugly Americans in trouble themselves. This is the feature debut of seasoned television director Claire Scanlon, who has directed episodes of many of the best comedies of recent years, including Brooklyn 99, The Good Place, and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. This is reassuring, although I’m going to take issue with the trailer by calling the source material a “favorite” book; Grant Ginder’s novel only has a 2.8 on Goodreads , lower than Mein Kampf ‘s (3.18).
