What’s New on Disney+ in November 2022
The holiday season is a time for tradition, for looking back on fond memories of days gone by, for resurrecting an old and dubiously loved IP address to attach to your streaming service (see Hocus Pocus 2 premiere on Disney+ at last month). In November, Disney+ is turning two films from its back catalog into shows. ” Willow ” (November 30) returns to the world of Ron Howard and George Lucas’ 1988 fantasy film of the same name, featuring new adventures of a short hero with a big heart. The film doesn’t strike me as a popular favorite (I saw it in a theater at age 7 and didn’t like it then; I was appalled by its brutality after a recent re-watch), but Disney’s algorithm must know something I don’t, because of trailer makes it clear that they have invested a lot of money in it.
Also on the Road: The Santa Clauses (November 16), the sequel to the trilogy of films in which Tim Allen is cursed to become Santa ( Santa Claus, 1994), take an immortal bride ( Santa Claus 2 , 2002), and fight the army robots ( The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause , 2006). Allen reprises his role, despite Disney-owned ABC canceling his series and Pixar taking the voice of Buzz Lightyear from him for the simple crime of being a sensible conservative willing to oppose waking culture. Cancel cultural strikes again!
