How to Fix Wireless Charging on Your Pixel

At the moment, wireless charging is the main feature we expect from smartphones. Whether you have an iPhone or Android, you know you can put a dying device on a Qi charger and see slow and steady results. However, it looks like Google accidentally turned off wireless charging on its Pixels with a recent Android update. If your Pixel is among those affected, rest assured that you can fix it.

What broke wireless charging on your Pixel?

There are several complaints on r/Android about non-existent pixel wireless, many of which are not new. One post from August 17 explains the situation in the same way as the post from October 4 . The issue seems to be related to Android 13: while Google’s “latest and best” versions come with a few fun new features , it looks like wireless charging on some pixels is hurting wireless charging.

Judging by reports and comments on r/Android, the Pixel 4XL has been the hardest hit, but other Pixels also seem to be at risk, including the Pixel 6 Pro. Complaints claim that the Pixel sometimes says it’s charging when it’s actually not, and other times it starts charging before shutting down.

How to fix broken wireless charging on your Pixel

Many attempts to fix the problem have been futile, but luckily the latest security update can help – at least according to user djc-503 . They claim that wireless charging was broken prior to the latest security update , which restored wireless charging to their Pixel 4. To install this security update, go to Settings > System > System Update .

However, if the update does not fix the situation, there is another way. User SnooDrawings7662 was able to get wireless charging back on his Pixel 4XL and Pixel 6 Pro as follows:

To get started, clear the cache in the Google Pixel Stand app by going to Settings > Storage > Other Apps , selecting the Pixel Stand app, and then choosing Clear Cache. Then boot into Safe Mode by pressing and holding the Power button, pressing and holding the Power button, and then selecting Restart in Safe Mode. Once your device boots up again, connect your Pixel to Pixel Stand. Then restart your phone to exit safe mode. Your Pixel should start wireless charging again.

Of course, you don’t have to follow a convoluted series of steps to access a key feature of your savvy smartphone. But that seems to be MO Google these days.
