The Most Clichéd Halloween Costumes to Avoid This Year

It’s only a few weeks until Halloween, so it’s time to ask yourself what you’re going to be wearing this year. This is a deeply honest question, because Halloween is the only day of the year when you can (almost) wear exactly what you want, and no one will judge you.

There are three take on Halloween (in my opinion). The first is made up of lazy people who don’t care and just spout nonsense at the last minute. I will not discuss them. The other two groups are people who wear something original and self-defining – my wife and I will dress as secret Satanists Minnie and Roman Castaveta from Rosemary’s Baby, for example – and vice versa: people who are looking for the most popular, the low stress. a suit to hide in. Regardless of which group you belong to, it’s helpful to know what other people are likely to wear, either to avoid it or to identify the most banal way to make yourself virtually invisible this Halloween.

Which Halloween costume will be the most popular in 2022?

The research on the prevalence of costumes isn’t exactly scientific, especially when there’s more than three weeks left until the magical night, but I have two predictive lists of the most popular Halloween 2022 adult costumes. The first is from costumes.com retailer via Marketplace , who bases their listing on their sales. The second list comes from Pinterest, where the site used internal search data to identify the costume ideas people are looking for the most. So costume.com is a sales summary, while Pinterest is more inspiring.

Best Selling Costumes of 2022 (from costumes.com)

Here are the best-selling ready-made costumes from Halloween 2022:

  • Inflatable T-Rex
  • Wonder Woman 1984
  • Buddy Elf
  • The Dark Knight: Batman
  • Wizard of Oz: Dorothy
  • Captain Marvel
  • The Force Awakens: Rey
  • Harley Quinn
  • Ride a beer buddy
  • Elvis (Deluxe)

This is one boring group of costumes. Though I’m reassured by the lack of political attire – there’s not a single “Sexy Mitch McConnell” or “Trump Baby Eater” costume to be seen here. Instead, the shop’s simply classic Halloween outfits are based on popular, easily recognizable TV shows and movie characters. However, there are a couple of exceptions.

T-Rex inflatable costumes top the list thanks to their TikTok display. These costumes were super cool and fun when they came out 10 years ago, but they’ll be all over his Halloween. However, you can potentially rescue them from the basics through repetition. I suggest gathering as many friends as possible so that they all wear the same dinosaur costume – a team of 15 tyrannosaurs stepping through the door is impressive.

Another unique costume here, Beer Buddy Ride , gives the illusion of riding a German stereotype. It’s funny, but only for those who have not seen it before. Instead, you can ride a pink ostrich , a dragon , or a toilet .

Most Popular Halloween Costumes (via Pinterest)

The Pinterest list is a bit more eclectic. This is not a list of finished products, but a list of costumes that people look up on Pinterest for inspiration. Also, this is a list of increasing searches, so this is more of a snapshot of a hot trend indicator.

Here are the best Pinterest costumes in order:

  • Costume ideas from Stranger Things
  • Elvis and Priscilla costume
  • Patrick Bateman costume
  • Best Shooter Suit
  • Anna Delvey costume
  • Harley Quinn Halloween Costume
  • Avril Lavigne Halloween Costume
  • Dani Hocus Pocus costume
  • Costumes Maddie and Cassie Euphoria
  • lord of the rings halloween costumes

I wonder why there are so few horror-focused costumes on both lists this year. No Michael Myers or Pinhead, although both monsters have new movies coming out. Instead, we only have Patrick Bateman from American Psycho. I was expecting to see a smiley face from Smile , but maybe we are all horrified.

And Avril Lavigne? Seriously? There’s nothing wrong with the bubblegum punk diva, but the seventh most fashionable suit in America? Strange.

As with ready-made costumes, Pinterest users are mostly looking for characters from movies and TV shows, but unlike costume.com’s list, these are mostly regular characters wearing what appear to be regular clothes. You can assemble most of the kit needed for these looks without buying a packaged costume, either by taking a trip to a thrift store or ordering parts from Amazon. For example, here is a detailed description of how to make a Top Gun suit .
