You Can Create Lists of Your Favorite (or Frequently Visited) Places in Google Maps.

When you open Google Maps, it’s usually either a place you ‘ve never been before or a place you visit all the time. The app makes it easy to find or try a new restaurant or establishment, but it’s also great for monitoring traffic on your daily commute. We all have a lot of locations that we often manually enter into Google Maps, so why not make it easy for yourself?

Saving your frequently visited or favorite places is a great way to keep those places handy when you need them. It’s also a great way to collect your recommendations on what to do in a particular city. If your friend is visiting New York and you know interesting places, you can quickly make a list and share it with him.

This feature is available on the iOS and Android versions of Google Maps and is available wherever you use the service. To get started, select one of your frequently visited places on Google Maps. Swipe through the various options here (Itineraries, Start, Order, etc.), then tap Save. Here you will see all the available listings that you may already have by default from Google. For example, my lists include Favorites, Want to Go, Travel Plans, and Starred Places.

Touch any of these existing lists to add your location to them. You can also add a note about the location if you like (for example, “Order extra chili oil” or “Don’t park in front of this person’s house”). To create a new list of frequently visited places, click New List in the top right corner. You can give the list a name such as Favorite Local Restaurants, a description for the list, and whether the list is private (only visible to you), public (you can let friends check it out), or public (your list is visible to everyone, along with your name and profile picture).

For me personally, the last option is “no”, but I see some practical uses for it. If you’re an expert in your city or area, or you’ve just gone on a trip and have some important recommendations, posting a list on all Google Maps can be a good use of your expertise. If you end up wanting to share your list with the world, the list has a simple “Share” button that you can use at any time.

Once you add a location to your list, you can click “Add” to add more. Of course, you can repeat the steps above to do the same. Any items you add to the list will be clearly labeled on the map, so you won’t lose them when you’re looking for things to do.

That’s all! Curate your lists however you like. Gather all your favorites in one place or sort them by type. If you’re a particularly organized person, I suppose you can create quite a few micro-categories to catalog every favorite place on your maps. If you’re more like me, they all end up in a folder labeled Places.
