Do Not Drink the Recalled Capri Sun, Which May Contain Cleaning Solution

Capri Sun juice drinks have been a staple in lunch boxes since they first hit US grocery store shelves in 1981. But before you pack one of those iconic foil bags for your kid’s (or your own) lunch tomorrow, take a moment to check if it’s one of these. are recalled due to the risk that they contain a cleaning solution.

Kraft Heinz, the North American manufacturer and distributor of Capri Sun products, has announced a voluntary recall of some of its juice drinks because they may contain chemical contaminants, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Here’s what you need to know.

Why are Capri Sun products being recalled?

Kraft Heinz is recalling about 5,760 cases (more than 230,000 bags) of wild cherry flavored Capri Sun Juice Blend drinks because they may contain diluted cleaning solution.

How does this happen, you ask? Part of a cleaning-in-place (CIP) solution used on food processing equipment “was inadvertently introduced into the production line” at one of their plants , according to the company.

The bug was discovered after several customers complained about the taste of their Capri Sun drinks.

Which Capri Sun products are being reviewed?

While Kraft Heinz is working with retailers and distributors to withdraw any potentially contaminated Capri Sun products from circulation if you have them in your home right now, you should check to see if they are part of a recall.

First, look at the taste: only wild cherry flavored Capri Sun products were potentially affected. If that’s what you’ve got, here’s what else to look for to identify recalled drinks :

What to do if you have purchased recalled Capri Sun products

If it turns out that you actually purchased the recalled Capri Sun product, make sure no one drinks it. Instead, you can return them to the store where they were purchased and receive a refund.
