Why You Should Freeze Water Bottles at an Angle

Staying hydrated is key to surviving the heat , especially if you’re trying to stick to a workout plan during this awfully hot summer. We already told you that your freezer needs water bottles . What if I told you that these water bottles need to be frozen on their side and at a certain angle? It’s worth the effort, I swear.

Whether you’re planning a long morning run or just want to access the coldest water to get through this heat , here’s a small but powerful hack you need to optimize your chilled H2O intake.

Cool down with a crisp 45 degree angle

The only way I can force myself to go jogging in the summer is to leave the house before 8am. This means that part of my nightly routine is remembering to put a bottle of water in the freezer so it’s icy and ready. go for a run in the morning. When I freeze my water bottle upright, I get stuck waiting for the block of ice to melt from the bottom and chill the entire bottle.

Instead, the best way to make ice water is to fill it just under half and then set it on its side. The trick is not to put the water bottle not quite sideways, but at a 45 degree angle . Thus, the block of ice does not block the hole. When you’re ready to hit the road in the morning, take the bottle out of the freezer and fill the other half with water. A vertical block of ice is immediately in contact (cooling) with all the water; no waiting.

Now you’re ready to grab your cold bottle and think about the best workouts to do in this heat . (And if you haven’t stuck a water bottle in your freezer overnight, consider yourself doubly enlightened.)
