Welcome Back to Will It Be a Casserole?
Hello everyone, and welcome back to Will It Casserole ? , a column in which we see which dishes, dishes and cuisines can be reimagined and turned into casseroles (or hot dishes, depending on where you’re from). It’s been a while – almost two years – since I took a concept suggested by readers and turned it into a casserole, and I miss being bossed around.
The last casserole I made was Shepherd’s Potato Pie , and it was good, but I need a challenge, an esoteric concept, a foodie’s dream to turn into a tiered hot dish. Sort of like Garth’s breakfast bowl , cheese plate , or whole cook .
This is where you come to the rescue. If you’ve been hanging out with Skillet for a few years, you may remember that this column is reader oriented . It’s pretty simple: I suggest a few casserole ideas and you all comment on your own below, or add notes and suggestions for me. Then I read the comments, pick my favorite, make a casserole out of it, and share the recipe.
As always, I have a few ideas to start with, most of which I came up with a long time ago, but never brought to life:
- Grilled Cheese Casserole with Tomato Soup: There are a few different ways we could make this, but I imagine lots of crispy bread, lots of different cheeses, and reduced tomato soup.
- French Onion Soup Casserole: Similar to the previous one, but with an insane amount of caramelized onions and a beef base instead of tomatoes (obviously).
- Trader Joe’s Casserole: I’d like to see what kind of casserole I can make using only Trader Joe’s products – bonus if they’re all from the frozen food section.
- Taco Bell Casserole: All Taco Bell dishes are basically a permutation of the same five ingredients , so I don’t see any reason why a casserole wouldn’t work. We could build it from real Taco Bell items, homemade duplicates, or a mixture of both.
