How to Get Part of the Monsanto Weed Killer Settlement
Last month, a federal judge in California approved a $45 million class action lawsuit settlement in a class-action lawsuit filed by a consumer group against Monsanto for promoting and selling Roundup and other weed killers without disclosing that they contain an ingredient that can cause crayfish.
Now, anyone who purchased one or more of the products included in the claim is eligible to claim a portion of the payout. Here’s how to find out if you’re eligible for any money, and if so, what you need to do to get it.
What products are included in the Monsanto settlement?
A total of 19 weed and grass control products from three brands – Roundup , HDX and Ace – were part of a $45 million class action lawsuit. These products include:

- Roundup® Ready-to-Use Weed and Grass Killer Plus (all applicators)
- Roundup® Plus Weed and Grass Control Concentrate
- Roundup® Weed & Grass Masterbatch
- Ready-to-use Roundup® Poison Ivy Plus Tough Brush Killer
- Ready-to-use Roundup® Wild Blackberry Plus vine and shrub killer
- Roundup® Poison Ivy Plus Tough Brush Killer Concentrate
- Roundup® Wild Blackberry Plus Concentrate Vine & Bush Killer
- Ready-to-Use Roundup® Weed and Grass Control, Ready-to-Use and Weed Control
- Roundup® Extended Weed & Grass Concentrate Plus Weed Control
- Ready-to-use Roundup® Max Control 365
- Roundup® Max Control 365 Concentrate
- Roundup® Sure Shot Weed and Grass Killer Foam
- Roundup® Precision Gel Weed & Grass Killer
- Roundup® Pro Concentrate (2.5 gallon size)

These products were sold in all 50 states, Washington DC, and US territories at retailers including Home Depot, Walmart, Amazon, Target, Lowe’s, Ace Hardware, True Value, and more. Additional information and product images are available here .
Who is entitled to part of the settlement?
Anyone in the United States who has purchased any size or variety of products mentioned above for personal use (i.e., not for resale or distribution) during certain periods of time is eligible to file a claim. Designated purchase dates, known as the “class period”, vary from state to state. You can view the period for your state here .

How much money will each person in the settlement receive?
In short, it depends on how many of these weed killers you purchased, where you bought them, and whether you kept your receipts. Payments are expected to range from $0.55 to $33 per item, or about 20% of retail value.
If you have a receipt or other proof of purchase that lists both the product and the quantity purchased, there is no limit to the number of products you can claim.
Those who purchased Roundup or other products included in the agreement and have not retained their receipts may claim one product per year during their state class period (excluding the three highest concentration products).
But don’t expect verification right away: there is one final settlement hearing scheduled for January 2023. If the judge signs the payments, they will be sent some time after that.
How to file a claim
To file a claim, please fill out this form . You will be asked to provide contact information, proof of purchase or product purchased information, retail location (including city and state), and approximate date of purchase. You have until October 19, 2022 to file a claim.
