What’s New at Paramount+ in July 2022
Insightful documentary exploration of today’s most pressing issues is good, but given that I usually watch TV when I want to completely wall myself off from the horrors of reality, I’ll take a YouTube-style deep dive into a piece of ephemeral pop culture (almost) every time. The Day the Music Died: American Pie , a full-length exploration of one of the most unconventional pop hits ever recorded, sounds like it will fit the bill when it premieres on Paramount+ on July 19.
Other highlights of this slow summer month: the long-delayed premiere of the second season of Blood and Treasure (July 17), as the action series transitions to streaming from its former spot on CBS; The Only (July 12), a documentary about Briana Scarry, the only black player on the US women’s national soccer team; and Honor Society (July 29), an original broadcast dark comedy about the lengths successful high school students are willing to go to get into their dream colleges, presumably because they can’t wait to be in six-figure debt at 22 amount.
