What’s New on Netflix in June 2022

Cultural critics have spent a lot of time talking poetically about how the streaming age — and Netflix in particular — devalues creative works, turning them into mere “content,” thoughtlessly slapped into a big bag of streaming garbage and waiting viewers (and a cunning algorithm). do the rest. And while I certainly agree, it is also undoubtedly a “me” issue.

For example, I’ve been fully aware of the Netflix superhero series The Umbrella Academy for years – long before the first season debuted on the streamer. I read the original graphic novels, watched them being made, enjoyed the cast, and expected the hybrid of comedy, family drama, and comics to come to life. However, have I actually watched any of these series about the misadventures of a group of superpowered siblings and a talking primate? No. No. And now I’m almost three seasons behind!

It’s incomprehensible to me that I haven’t watched the show with such a fun trailer, let alone one that can be accurately described as ” The Tenenbaum Royal Family meets the Fantastic Four “. And still. There is so much content these days, and when it all comes down in one edible chunk, the pressure to actually sit down and consume it can be too much. At least for me. Maybe I can make it in time for the third season on June 22? (I won’t.)

Plus, it’s a sleepy month on Netflix. There’s Adam Sandler’s new comedy, Hustle (June 8), in which he plays a sports talent scout trying to recruit a phenom from Spain; On the sitcom God’s Favorite Idiot (June 15), Melissa McCarthy enters the game alongside her husband, Ben Falcone, who plays a loser recruited by the Almighty to fight evil. And then there are the comedy specials – oh, so many comedy specials, from the likes of Amy Schumer (June 11), Pete Davidson (June 13), Bill Burr (June 6) and more. Also, a new comedy talk show from David Letterman (June 7) and Dirty Daddy , dedicated to the late great Bob Saget (June 10). I’m sure they don’t make all these specials just because they’re cheap , nosiree. Here’s everything else coming and going from Netflix in June 2022.
