How to Play Elden Ring in VR (Seriously)

I’m a big fan of virtual reality, especially games that focus on exploration. Skyrim VR is my favorite because I immerse myself in its world in first person. So for a game like Elden Ring , known for its open-world endless expeditions, it seems fitting to have a VR mode for maximum immersion. Well, I’m happy to report that such a VR mode exists for the game, but not from, say, an official source.

FromSoftware, the developer of Elden Ring , has nothing to do with the creation of the VR mode for the game. Of course, it is possible that such a feature is being worked on behind the scenes, but as far as we know, there are no official plans here. But that’s one of the best parts of PC games: if something doesn’t exist, someone can make it on their own. As it turns out, this is how we get Elden Ring VR .

Meet Luke Ross, VR modding expert. Ross has been creating VR mods for AAA titles such as Red Dead Redemption 2 , Grand Theft Auto V and Cyberpunk: 2077 since 2017. Elden Ring is only two months old, but Ross is already nearing the completion of a VR prototype for the game. as you can see from the video below :

If you thought your first Elden Ring playthrough was exciting, imagine how it would feel to take your first steps in the Lands. Speaking of which, Ross designed this mod for a first-person game, which clearly goes against the perspective of a third-person game. While you can play this VR mod in third person, Ross recommends that players stick with first person , as the third person field of view is very wide.

Also, don’t be surprised if the experience is a little overwhelming, especially if you’re not used to intense VR games. While Ross made sure to keep the camera glued to your “head” while controlling your perspective while rolling or jumping, he also says this game is really for players with “VR legs”. If you’re prone to motion sickness while playing certain VR games, you might feel a bit nauseous here (although fighting Elden Ring ‘s spooky enemies in first person might give you a stomach ache anyway).

Now Ross is not giving away that VR experience. To check it out yourself, you need to subscribe to Ross’s Patreon , which costs $10 per month. However, remember that you are not only getting access to Elden Ring VR ; the subscription also gives you all of Ross’ VR projects, as well as instructions and help setting up VR mods for your games.

As of this writing, Ross’s Elden Ring mod hasn’t been released yet, but he claims the first prototype should be available to subscribers as early as this week. If you are interested in this project or Ross’ other VR projects, follow this account.

To play the mod when available, you’ll need a copy of Elden Ring on your PC, as well as compatible VR hardware. If you run into any issues trying to run the mod on your side, be sure to reach out to Patreon (it’s part of the subscription, after all).
