The 7 Most Common Irrational Fears (and 7 Things You Should Be Feared Instead)

The modern world is largely immune to the primal dangers that plagued our ancestors—attacks by wild animals are rare; few of us will ever walk off a cliff and die because glasses weren’t invented. This does not mean that death and danger are defeated. We have just forced them into forms so new to us as a species that we have not had the opportunity to develop a proper instinctive fear of them. Meanwhile, these ancient fears are still swirling around in our brains, needlessly filling us with anxiety and fear of things that are unlikely to harm us.

I’m not sure we can take our fears to their logical conclusion – I imagine trying to explain to a caveman the dangers of morbid obesity – but I’ll at least try: here are seven things we fear. but it shouldn’t be, and seven things we should.
