How to (Finally) Switch to the Timeline on Instagram

Instagram has finally brought back the ability to view your feed in chronological order. Instagram’s default feed mixes recent posts with old ones, making it hard to tell which posts are actually new. The app also adds clutter to your feed in the form of “suggested” messages from accounts you don’t follow. But now you have the option to switch back to the good old days of the timeline.

How to switch to the Instagram timeline

To get your timeline back on Instagram, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure you have updated Instagram to the latest version on Android and iPhone.
  2. Open Instagram on your phone and tap the Instagram logo in the top left corner.
  3. A drop-down menu will open with two options: Subscriptions and Favorites. Tap ” Subscriptions ” to switch to the timeline. The newest messages will appear at the top and the oldest at the bottom of your feed.

If nothing happens when you click on the Instagram logo, this feature may not have been rolled out on your phone yet. You can tell if you have access to your Instagram timeline by looking at the down arrow icon next to the Instagram logo on the app’s home screen. If you see an arrow, you have this feature.

If the down arrow doesn’t appear right away, try tapping the Instagram logo a couple of times to open it. If it still doesn’t show up, you’ll have to wait for it to be deployed to you.

What are followers and favorites channels on Instagram?

Instagram has added two new timelines to its app. If you’ve followed the steps above and selected Subscriptions, you’ll see posts from all the accounts you follow in chronological order. It’s like going back in time and using Instagram when it was first launched.

The Favorites feed allows you to add up to 50 accounts and follow their messages in chronological order. These accounts must be selected from among the ones you follow, which means that you cannot add accounts that you have not already followed.

Can I set the default timeline?

No, you cannot currently set the default timeline on Instagram. When you open the app, the default feed will be loaded and you will need to follow the steps above to view the messages in chronological order.
