Throw Away Those Pancake Mixes That May Contain Cable Fragments, Says FDA
If your weekend (or weekday) breakfasts usually include waffles or pancakes made with mix (no judgment here), you might want to rethink your menu. This comes as some buttermilk pancake and waffle mixes sold at Kroger and Walmart stores across the country are being recalled “due to potential foreign material contamination,” according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). . Here’s what you need to know.
Why pancake and waffle mixes are being recalled
The recalled products were all made by Continental Mills, and the buttermilk pancake and waffle mixes in question were sold under the store brand names Kroger and Walmart ( Kroger and Great Value , respectively).
The manufacturer issued a recall after fragments of a cable used to clean a production line were found in some pancake and waffle mixes. So far, no consumer has reported finding pieces of cable in products, and there are no signs of associated illness or injury.

What to do if you have purchased recalled products
If you have recently purchased any of the pancake and waffle mixes mentioned above from any retailer, do not eat them. The FDA recommends discarding the product and then calling the hotline at 1-800-578-7832 (Monday through Friday, 10:00 am to 7:00 pm EST) to obtain refund or for more information.
