Don’t Buy These Apple Devices (Until Tomorrow)
It’s always hard to know when to buy new technology . It feels like something new is always around the corner, but it only appears after you spend some money on an already outdated paperweight. Thankfully, this is your warning, your red flag, your sign from God not to buy these Apple products today. Why? Because the company is most likely going to announce updates for all of them tomorrow, March 8th.
Now a word of caution: all of the following are rumors. Of course, when the Apple event is one day away, the rumors tend to be pretty accurate. However, nothing is set in stone. You can wait to buy something because of this article, only to have Apple announce its successor tomorrow. In that case, sorry! However, it is good technical practice to wait for a confirmed event with reputable rumors before making any major purchases.
It is important, however , that Apple has a clear return policy for its products. If you bought something today (or tomorrow) only to see a new or improved version, you have two weeks from the purchase date to return the item. But it’s much easier, if you can avoid it, to just wait and see. Apple will gladly take your money, whether it’s yesterday’s MacBook or tomorrow’s.
iPad Air
When the current iPad Air came out, it was easy to recommend. Apple has updated its mid-range tablet with an iPad Pro-like edge-to-edge display with a super-fast A14 processor and fun colors you couldn’t get on any other iPad.
Unfortunately, Air did not remain such a favorite for long. The base iPad, despite its older design language and chip one generation behind, costs about half as much as the Air. If the cheapest iPad didn’t do anything for you, Apple’s iPad mini could, since it had the same design as the Air, with a chip one generation newer and $100 cheaper.
All of which suggests that you might be thinking about buying an iPad Air, perhaps because of the larger display compared to the mini, or because of one of its unique colors. No need. Apple intends to update the Air with some much-needed upgrades, including the A15 Bionic chip (possibly slowed down to the same speeds as the mini), 5G, Center Stage (made possible by a 12MP ultra-wide-angle front camera), rear camera flash. , and, most importantly, a purple color option.
iPhone SE
The iPhone SE is arguably the perfect iPhone. It’s cheap by Apple standards and includes all the basic features you’ll need in an iPhone. Apple released the original back in the spring of 2016 and allowed rumors of its successor to circulate for four years (I can’t count how many articles I’ve written about this damn phone).
The current SE is two years old and while still a good buy, it will be replaced soon. Apple is rumored to be releasing a new iPhone SE tomorrow with big upgrades such as 5G, the A15 Bionic chip, and upgraded cameras. However, one thing that will likely not change is the overall design: The SE 3 should still have a home button with large bezels on the top and bottom of the device. Although it may disappoint some, I like it. Since the release of the first iPhone in 2007, Apple’s smartphone lineup has always had a home button.
iphone 13
If you were hoping to see the iPhone 14 at this Apple event, unfortunately it didn’t happen. Apple only updates its core iPhone lineup in the fall, opting instead to use its spring events for smaller releases like the iPhone SE.
However, before you go shopping for the iPhone 13 in protest today, you should know that Apple is rumored to be introducing a new color to the 13 lineup – GREEN . This rumor is brand new, so we’ll see if it’s actually true. However, if you want a little more greenery in your tech life and want a new iPhone, you can sit back until tomorrow’s announcement.
13″ Macbook Pro
The 13-inch MacBook Pro used to be the standard for small professional Apple laptops. Things got a little more complicated with the 14-inch MacBook Pro, though. This machine is truly professional with a starting price of $2,000, making the 13-inch MacBook Pro a more suitable device for those looking for a slight step up from the MacBook Air.
Not much will change this year, except for one important thing: Apple is rumored to be replacing the M1 chip in its current 13-inch laptop with an M2. This second-generation Apple silicon chip should not be confused with the successor to the M1 Pro or M1 Max chips. M2 is rather the successor to M1. While its processor will likely remain the same, it will offer up to nine or 10 GPU cores, which is an upgrade from the seven or eight GPU cores offered in the “M1”.
Intel Mac mini
If you’ve just bought a new M1 Mac mini, you don’t need to beat yourself up. First, you can always return it within two weeks, but the M1 mini is not the focus of Apple here. Instead, the company is likely upgrading the higher-end Intel Space Gray with the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips currently used in the latest MacBook Pro models. In this case, additional parameters of RAM will probably appear; All M1 Macs have 16GB of RAM, with the M1 Pro and M1 Max chipsets offering up to 64GB.
Audio/video fans may know that the Intel Mac mini has more port options than the M1. The M1 Pro/Max Mac mini is rumored to support these ports, including four Thunderbolt, two USB-A, one Ethernet, and one HDMI port. In addition, the device will receive a significant design update, including a plexiglass top with a two-tone finish.
Pro Display XDR (if you’re looking for a cheaper option)
The Apple Pro Display XDR is a great display. It’s also expensive . Since many of us in the ecosystem want a good Apple display that won’t cost an arm and a leg, it makes sense that the company is rumored to be introducing a new, cheaper external display tomorrow . The 27-inch monitor won’t include the mini-LED technology used in the Pro Display XDR, but MacRumors suggests it will cost just ( only ) $1,000 compared to the Pro Display’s $4,999 starting price. I would go for this compromise.
