30 Oscar-Nominated Films in 2022 (and Where to Watch Them)

Last year at this time, I may have predicted that by now we would have a much clearer picture of the future state of the film industry. COVID has dramatically accelerated a decades-long trend of shrinking theater windows and, in some cases, completely disrupted them as films streamed simultaneously or skipped theaters altogether. But judging by this year’s nominees, the film world is still measuring success by box office – only two streaming releases claim Best Picture – even as it’s becoming increasingly clear that these screenings aren’t the only or even the best. way way to make money. So maybe next year we can do better with all of this?

As a result, recent films are still available for home viewing more readily than ever. Gone are the days of potential Oscar contenders not appearing on video for months after the ceremony. Nearly all of the top contenders for 2022 are already available for home viewing in one form or another, either free for subscribers to a streaming service or digital. Right now, we’re only short of options for five of them, and that number will no doubt dwindle before the Oscars broadcast.

Returning to the Dolby Theater from last year’s trip to the train station, the 94th Academy Awards will air on Sunday, March 27th. It is expected that for the first time since 2017, the show will have one main host, but there is no information yet. about who it will be. In any case, you have enough time and opportunity to become an informed spectator before then.
