Yes, You Must Use a Mug to Make Perfectly Round Cookies.

From time to time, a hack pops up that fills you with a mixture of awe and condemnation for being so simple, so obvious , that you can’t believe you didn’t think of it yourself. But while you mutter ” spirit ” under your breath, you must begrudgingly admit that this was news to you.

This is that hack. Anyway, for me. Because I’ve baked many hundreds of cookies a day, but I’ve never made them perfectly round by shaping them with a glass or mug when they first come out of the oven.

That’s what TikTok user BabyChrisMom did in a nine-second viral video that was viewed by nearly 19 million people in December. (Even more awesome is the follow -up video – more on that in a minute.) Under text overlay: “Perfect round cookies. Use a coffee cup or glass as soon as you take them out of the oven,” she demonstrated how to turn oddly shaped cookies into perfect circles by wrapping them around the rim when they are hot and gently shaking the warm dough around the edges. in a circular motion. (This happened on a foil-lined baking sheet that was presumably coated with non-stick spray.)

The video has garnered 1.2 million likes and thousands of comments ranging from reverent to incredulous. Claims about “Witchcraft” and “My life is a lie” were spiced with “Uh, does anyone really care if their cookies are perfectly round?” (No, but a perfectionist baker can. Let them live.)

But even more interesting – and far reaching – was a response video to one user’s comment: “Use clear glass so we can see it’s true.” In it, the creator did the same, but used a glass to “prove” that the hack was true, which gained over 50 million views.

And the number of reactions, 12.7k to be exact, proves that TikTok’s comment sections are funnier than most shows on Netflix: “Why would anyone doubt this enough to need more proof”, “PEOPLE, IS THIS DOUGH?” and “You all have trust issues.”

Some pleaded with us to “normalize imperfect cookies” while others shared their drastic method: “I eat my cookies in a round shape and then I eat a round portion.”

Of course the haters will hate. “Solution to a problem that was never a problem,” one said, while another chided, “Just eat the damn thing while it’s still warm.” Both are correct opinions. But still, it’s a neat trick.
