This App Provides TikTok Detection for Spotify

The secret to the addictive nature of TikTok has two parts. First, it uses an infinite scrolling interface, which means you can scroll through video after video for as long as you can last. Secondly, its algorithm is incredibly efficient at identifying your interests, so it basically shows you the videos you’ll want to watch. If you’ve been having a hard time finding new music lately, the new app takes TikTok’s approach to Spotify’s algorithm to help you find your next favorite song.

The Anthem app was designed to help you discover new music based on your Spotify listening history. It’s currently an iOS exclusive, but according to the developer , an Android version is in the works. Anthem works by connecting to your existing Spotify account; once connected, it looks through the music you’ve streamed in the past to deliver you a stream of songs that we hope should suit your tastes. It works whether you pay for Spotify or not (I don’t) so anyone can get recommendations.

The icing on the cake is that you can swipe through these songs just like on TikTok, which makes browsing new tracks fun and familiar. Please be aware that this app is not designed to stream your songs; is a personalized music recommendation service that only plays a 30 second preview of each track. While you can’t exclusively listen to music through Anthem, it’s still a handy tool for finding new songs in a scrollable format.

How to use Anthem to find new music

When you download the app for the first time, follow the on-screen instructions to link your Spotify account. Keep in mind that you will need to give Anthem broad access to your Spotify information, including your email, Spotify play history, and other data. It’s just the nature of using a Spotify client like Anthem, but worth considering if you’re concerned about your privacy.

Once your account is linked, create an Anthem username. The app will then show you a list of songs based on your listening history; choose your favorites among these options and then choose at least two “clubs” to join. Anthem Clubs are pages where users can share and discuss songs on various topics. For example, there is a movie music club, an EDM beats club, a song club to get high on, and more. You don’t have to join these clubs, but Anthem requires you to select at least two when you sign up.

If you just want to swipe, the Discover page is your friend. Here you can vertically scroll through Anthem’s song recommendations. If you come across a song you like, click Save and Anthem will add it to the new My Anthem playlist on Spotify. If you don’t like a song, just swipe it. To refine your feed, go to the “Filter” tab in the upper right corner and select one of the available genres.

Anthem is a new app, so expect more features and changes over time. You can share your thoughts with the developer on this Reddit thread , and also visit their official website for more information .
