With widespread shipping issues and the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic (again), the 2021 holiday shopping season was not without its challenges. Online retailers have again made shopping safer and more convenient this year, but what happens when gifts are delivered and some of them need to be returned or exchanged? Here are a few things to consider when returning for the holidays this year.

Check your return policy carefully

In the past, it was safe to assume that most stores had a 30-day return policy, but over the past two years, due to the pandemic, many retailers have extended it. The only way to know for sure is to check their return policy listed on the gift receipt or on the seller’s website.

Items purchased by third-party sellers, including those sold on sites such as Amazon, may have their own separate return policies and dates, so take a look at those, Consumer Reports advises .

Shops offering pick-up can also take advantage of the return service. But don’t assume this is always the case: be sure to check with the seller before making a special trip there for this purpose.
