Use This Interactive Map to Find the Best Holiday Lights in Your Area
For several weeks each year, some people decide to decorate their home and yard with garlands outside and face higher-than-usual electricity bills to boost the festive mood in their area. But sometimes the most exquisitely designed houses are not located on the main roads.
In the past, you’ve had to rely on word of mouth to find the most griswold-like homes in your area. But now the interactive map in the Nextdoor app will point you in the right direction with a few taps. Here’s what you need to know.
How to use the interactive map
Technically, this is called Cheer Map , and in order to use it, you must have a Nextdoor account that you can create and use for free (as with any other application, you pay with your personal data). data). Once you’re set up, you can use the map to find holiday-lit houses in your area, or add your own home to the map.
To find decorated houses
To find the Cheer Map , open the Nextdoor app on your iPhone or Android. Then tap More in the lower right corner of the screen and then tap Support Map under District. You will then be redirected to the Cheer Map, where you will see a map of your area centered around the pin of your house. Your neighbors with holiday displays will be marked with a holiday light bulb icon.
To add your home to the map
Follow the directions above . When you’re on the Cheer Map and see your home icon, click Add Home. Then choose a color for the light bulb and click Save. To remove your home from the card, click Change your PIN and then Remove my PIN and you are good to go.
