How to Fix a Slow Pixel 6 Fingerprint Scanner

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are renowned for their many features, but one common criticism of both devices has to do with the fingerprint scanner. Google opted for an in-display fingerprint reader this year, which is great in theory – it allows you to display from edge to edge without worrying about taking up screen space (or any other space on your phone for that). to matter).

But while no one complained about the decision to place the scanner under the display (after all, Google is far from the first to make such a choice), reviewers and users have analyzed the actual functionality of the scanner. Many report that this is too slow to feel comfortable, and since there is no face scan option here, you have to either live with it or use your PIN exclusively.

New Pixel update improves fingerprint sensor

Fortunately, the slow sensor seems to be a thing of the past. The surprise Pixel update on Tuesday November 16th suggests the issue has been fixed, or at least resolved. These phones have two new updates: SD1A.210817.037 and SD1A.210817.037.A1 (the “A1” update is for Verizon Pixel devices). While it was unclear at first what the updates were for, Verizon revealed the beans.

In the changelog for its A1 update, Verizon states, “The current software update improves the performance of your device’s fingerprint sensor.” While this description doesn’t explicitly say “the fingerprint sensor is as fast as you’d like,” it’s still a giant step in the right direction.

We’ll need to see real-world fingerprint sensor tests after this update to see if the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro display solution is comparable to other similar designs on the market. In any case, if you have one of these two devices, you should definitely update it as soon as possible.
