11 Best (and Worst) Grocery Gifts According to Lifehacker Readers

I told you last week that I am a supporter of the Gift of Food for almost any occasion . I’ve just never seen an assortment of cakes, biscotti or fruit pop up with anything other than pleasure. Gifts in the form of food or drinks, if carefully chosen for a specific recipient, will always be welcomed, because people not only need to eat, but also people often do not need (or do not want) more things.

I asked Lifehacker readers to provide input on which consumables are good consumable gifts (and which are not), and you came up with comments with thoughts, opinions, suggestions, and some caveats that are important to note:

1. As noted EdnasEdibles, alcohol should give only the case if the “you know what a person drinks, he was fine with his level of alcohol, and that he actually drinks what you gave him.” Otherwise, you may inadvertently sabotage someone who is trying to reduce their alcohol consumption.

2. You have to take any dietary concerns into consideration because, as jjdebenedictis says: “I have a bunch of dietary problems and if someone gives me cookies, it’s very sad for me, because I would like to eat them, but not can. “(Don’t upset jjdebenedictis!)

Now let’s discuss the best and worst supplies you can give away this holiday season.
