Waze Can Help You Find Cheap Gasoline Along Your Route

If you use Waze to navigate, you don’t have to play the “Should I stop to refuel” game when you watch your tank empty. Waze uses crowdsourcing to display prices at gas stations along your route, so you can choose the cheapest option when prices start low.

How to find the cheapest gas station

Download Waze to your device first if you don’t already have one. Once you’re on the map, there are several options for finding cheap gasoline. If you want to find a station on the route you are driving, enter the destination address in the search bar. From there, you can add a stop by clicking the gas station icon, which will display a list or map of gas stations and prices (and you can see when the price per gallon was last updated).

If you just want to view petrol prices regardless of the specific route, you can also enter “petrol station” in the search bar.

You can also update your default petrol station search parameters (for example, taper by type or grade of gas) in My Waze> Settings> Petrol Stations .

(Note that because gas prices are crowdsourced, they may not always be up to date.)

Alternatives to Waze for Finding Cheap Gas

We’ve written about several other ways to find the cheapest gas stations . Google Maps lets you search for gas stations or browse an area of the map to see labels of nearby stations, as well as the current price per gallon, if available. You can further sort the currently open stations. Many of us already have and use Google Maps on our phones, so no additional app downloads are required. (Unfortunately, Apple Maps users are out of luck in this regard, as the app shows the locations of gas stations, but not prices.)

If you don’t mind another app, GasBuddy will show you the nearest stations and prices in real time. You can narrow your search by company or use the app to find the most economical route for your trip. You may even be able to pay for gas through the app at some stations.
