How to Enable Talk Boost on AirPods Pro (and When Needed)

Conversation Boost is a new AirPods Pro feature specifically designed for those with hearing impairments. It’s a nice addition to the AirPods Pro’s accessibility features, which also include the ability to turn on noise canceling on one AirPod . We’re going to tell you what Conversation Boost is and how to enable it on AirPods Pro.

What is Conversation Feature on AirPods Pro?

Conversation Boost lets you use AirPods Pro like a hearing aid. He directs microphones at the person directly in front of you, which increases the volume of his speech. If you’re having a face-to-face conversation, the AirPods Pro’s Talk Boost feature boosts the audio level of the other person in real time.

AirPods Pro has a transparency mode that lets you hear ambient sounds while you wear the headphones. Talk Boost is a clever use of Transparency Mode, in which AirPods Pro focuses more on sound from one direction rather than letting in sounds from all around you.

This does not mean that AirPods Pro can replace medical grade hearing aids. However, it will still be useful for people with hearing impairments.

How to enable talk mode on AirPods Pro

AirPods Pro Conversation Boost can be turned on in your iPhone’s accessibility settings. On your iPhone, go to Settings> Accessibility> Audio / Video> Headphone Placement , then turn on Headphone Placement . Now put on your AirPods Pro and scroll to the bottom of the settings page. Tap Transparency Mode .

If you’ve never tweaked AirPods Pro’s transparency mode , you’ll see a series of on-screen instructions asking which sound settings you like. Complete the setup first and then you will be returned to the transparency mode settings page. Scroll down and you will see the talk boost above the Noise Control section. Turn on Conversation Boost and on the same page choose Transparency under Noise Control.

Remember, Conversation Boost only works when you’ve turned on transparency mode on your AirPods Pro. Will not work if you have active noise canceling enabled. It is also wise to keep in mind that you should turn off the talk boost after the call ends. Especially if you’re planning to go outdoors with AirPods Pro, using Conversation Boost can be a little awkward and less secure than playing sounds from all directions.
