According to arecent report from the Bureau of LaborStatistics, the labor market is expected to recover steadily from the COVID pandemic over the next ten years, but some professions have a brighter future than others. New opportunities are expected to emerge in healthcare, internet technology and data analytics as boomers begin to leave the workforce and the number of teleworking increases. If you’re looking for a career change but aren’t sure where to look, this list is a good place to start.

While 2020 is one of the worst employment years since the Great Depression, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) expects the decline in employment growth for most occupations to reverse.
However, because the decline in employment in 2020 was so sharp, the growth projections in the report are biased towards the jobs most impacted by the pandemic. For example, the fastest growing profession is projectionist, with an expected 70.5% increase in employment, and other jobs most affected by COVID, such as group exercise instructors and restaurant workers, are also projected to grow rapidly.
To get around this, the report lists the fastest growing occupations, with the exception of those for which employment growth is largely driven by an expected short-term recovery from 2020. The big winners this decade will be in technology, healthcare and data processing, as teleworking and an aging population will drive employment growth in these sectors (including 24.8% growth for crematoria operators – come on). As more companies are into data science and artificial intelligence, expect more jobs for statisticians, information security analysts, and data scientists.
