How to Download Netflix TV Shows and Movies on Your Laptop, Tablet and Smartphone

If you’ve ever yearned for a Netflix binge when you’re stuck somewhere without Wi-Fi, it’s important for you to know: you really don’t need an active Netflix internet connection and relax. If you plan ahead, you can download some of the content that Netflix has to offer onto your Windows phone, tablet, or computer. Here’s how to watch Netflix movies and shows when you’re offline.

Make sure you have a compatible device

The download works in the Netflix app on iOS and Android devices, Windows 10 tablets and computers, Amazon Fire tablets, and some Chromebooks and Chromeboxes. If you have a compatible device and don’t see any download options, you may need to update your operating system or app.

Check for downloadable content

After logging into the Netflix app, there are several ways to find out what’s available to download. If you have a specific show or movie that interests you, find and select it; if it is suitable for downloading, you will see a Download button on the description page, both under the Play button and next to individual episodes (for TV shows). Android also has a Download Season button.

Or go to the “Downloads” section in the main menu bar and click the “View what you can download” button. You will get a catalog page organized by category, just like Netflix’s main landing page.

Windows 10 users will find this in Menu> Downloads .

Watch Netflix content offline

After you’ve downloaded what you want to watch, tap the Download icon ( Menu> My Downloads in Windows 10) on the main navigation bar to see what’s in your offline library. Tap the title and click the play icon.

According to Netflix, you can save up to 100 downloads to one device. However, downloads do indeed expire – some within 48 hours of starting playback. However, you can always re-download an episode or movie if you want to watch it again.
