Child Culture Guide for Adults: Why Does Gen Z Develop Tics?

This week, kids are spreading tick disorder via social media, pretending to be arrested, and using furry porn to fight COVID misinformation. Everything is extremely normal.

This week in Mysterious Ailments: Gen Z girls get tics and no one knows why

Generation Z is developing Tourette’s tics at an alarming rate, and no one knows why. This rapidly emerging ticking behavior is so widespread that researchers call it a “parallel pandemic.”

Unlike traditional Tourette’s syndrome, which mostly affects men and usually manifests itself around the age of six, the subjects of this new disorder are almost exclusively girls and women between the ages of 12 and 25. They also have more complex tics than most people with Tourette’s. including “hitting yourself or family members, clicking, whistling, repeating a wide variety of random and / or strange words or phrases, and shouting obscene language.”

Many people think that this phenomenon is a kind of mass sociogenic disease (in the past it was called “mass hysteria”). The theory is that the inhabitants of TikTok and YouTube shoot videos in which they tick, and then viewers develop the same tics. Many of the TicTokers’ tics involve blurting out the word “beans,” a behavior first seen on TikTok by the influential woman Evie Field, who is widely known on the Internet for detailing her Tourette’s symptoms and seizure disorders. According to experts, 18 months indoors plus the stress of COVID can also be contributing factors.

If you want to dive down the rabbit hole, what could be a mass of sociogenic disease spread via social media or there may be kids acting Goofy for clicks (opinion of my teenage niece), check out some of these “TicTokhashtags -If you’re afraid ( beans) developing your own ticks.

Trend of the week on TikTok: white dudes pretend to be arrested

While the TikTok girls are spreading tiki to each other, the young gentlemen pretend to be arrested. It all started with the “thirst trap” TikToker Gage Bills. (Traps of thirst is a whole thing, with cute guys filming videos for women to drool over, like the postmodern version of the 1950s TV show Continental.) In the video, Billsrin plays a scene from Netflix’s Outside Banks . Dressed in a T-shirt, Gage hits the wall while the light is blinking, then he glances briefly at the camera and says, “I love you.”

Whether it’s erotic or distracting depends on your point of view, but over 21 million people have watched it anyway. This led to imitations ,parodies and a ton of comments like “God, the assholes are so commonplace.”

Along with revealing bad taste and disregard for the class / racial privileges of white guys, the trend of first-person arrests also shows a huge talent gap between working actors and online influencers. I’m glad they have hobbies, but these TikTok guys haven’t made it to the Canadian soap opera.

This week on Reddit: Anti-vax sub banned, furry porn destroys ivermectin, ghouls celebrate COVID

There is so much COVID-related drama on Reddit. Last week, users and moderators called for a ban on vaccine misinformation on the r / nonewnormal subreddit. Reddit responded that it would not prevent the board of directors from maintaining important “disagreements and debates.” Reddit took down 180 this week, banned NNNs, and clarified its COVID denial policy . Really sticking to our ideals, Reddit.

In other Reddit-COVID news: r / ivermectin , a board dedicated to the idea that people should fight COVID by taking the worm medicine commonly given to livestock has been overwhelmed by users posting pornographic images of sexy horses, horse riders and riders. The influx of furry porn drowned out all healthy controversy and controversy, earned a safe-to-work subscription, and eventually a site-wide quarantine. This is a victory for the angry majority of the nation, “Just get vaccinated already, dumbheads,” and for furries all over the place.

Meanwhile, the COVID subreddit ” Herman Cain Award ” is picking up steam on Reddit. The board is a celebration of “I-Said-I-So,” with users happily posting COVID opponents against masks and vaccines on Facebook, followed by their coronavirus death notifications. It’s dark, painful and sad, but I have to admit it’s funny that 90 percent of dead COVID deniers are overweight white guys with bloating and Oakley syndrome.

Other COVID News: Joe Rogan checks poses

As for the associated instant karma, after publicly downplaying the need for a vaccine in the past, rebellious podcast host Joe Rogan announced that he has COVID.

“Just in case, I parted with my family, slept in another part of the house, and all night long my temperature rose and I was sweating. And I knew what was going on, ”Rogan said in a video posted to Instagram. “So, I got up in the morning, got tested, and it turned out that I had contracted the coronavirus.”

Unsurprisingly, Rogan showed that he was treating the disease with a worm medicine, along with other medicines, a practice that the medical community has categorically declared to “laugh.”

Viral Video of the Week: Milk Crate Problem Meets Gender Revealing

The video tweeted by @SamSanders this week brings together two recent viral genres – sex disclosure and the milk crate problem – with incredibly disastrous results . As you’d expect from the genre, the box daredevil climbs his personal Everest only to fall, spilling blue powder all over the place and showing that it will be a boy. Feeling deceived, I sent the clip to my wife, who knows everything.

“As a professional costume and mom, I’m sure a woman’s pregnant belly is not real,” she said. “All of this is clearly fake. But for a comedian, this video is a lot of fun. “

This week in personal opinion: DaBaby still exists

I don’t have room for that in my column, but I would like to point you to this video fromDaBaby’s “Essence” video. If I hadn’t been scouring the earth looking for things kids love, I probably would have missed DaBaby altogether – I’m definitely out of my target market. But I don’t want this to happen to you.
