What’s New on Amazon Prime Video September 2021

Writer and director Kay Cannon, who worked with Tina Fey on 30 Rock, prior to writing the Pitch Perfect Trilogy and staging the underrated lewd teenage comedy The Blockers , is from my hometown. When I was in high school, she even tried me at a forensic meeting. I only mention this because it is the only thing that interests me about her new take on Cinderella , which will hit Amazon Prime Video on September 3rd. This movie is pretty much not for me. Each generation gets its own revisionist fairy. a fairy tale, and this is one thing you might expect from Cinderella 2021: the title is not a symbol of the pantry, but #girlboss (did I mention Kay Cannon created Netflix’s Girlboss ?); she doesn’t want to find a man, but wants to start her career as a fashion designer – and what could be better than presenting one of her own designs at the prince’s ball? In a twist, visible from space, Pose’s Billy Porter takes on the magic wand as Cinderella’s fairy godmother, even dressing her in an elegant blue business suit. Idina Menzel is the stepmother, and James Corden (who is credited with the “original idea” of the film) plays one of the talking mice, because heck he does it. Etc.

The trailer includes contemporary pop hits and period setting, offering the heavy vibes of A Knight’s Tale , so if you like it, you’re probably in for it. Maybe if you’re under 40? I am very old – I was already an adult when Ella was fascinated; my opinion on this matter does not matter. What’s more for Prime Video in September? Some more original films: ” LuLaRich” (September 10), a documentary investigation into the scheme of the LuLaRoe pyramid ; Everyone’s Talking About Jamie (September 17), stage adaptation of the West End musical about a boy who becomes a transvestite at 16; and The Voyeurs (September 10), which is definitely the first film to feature a thriller based on a couple in an apartment looking at their neighbors through binoculars.
