Here Are Our Top Coffee Making Tricks
Coffee! We all know and care about this so much that I couldn’t even think of a suitable article to write about it. In fact, as I write this post, I am sipping my delicious morning brew. This is the only way to start the day.
Since it is an integral part of our daily life, we have put together the best tricks for preparing the perfect cup of coffee. And, of course, it all starts with beans.
Buy whole grain coffee and store it in an airtight, opaque container in a cool, dry place away from the heat of the stove. For maximum flavor, use beans within two weeks of purchase.
For grinding, take out the grinder cutter. Yes, they take up more counter space and are slightly more expensive, but you can tell the difference. (Trust me, I recently switched from a blade to a millstone and wow, the improvement is noticeable.) Don’t throw away your old bladed grinder, you can still use it as a spice grinder.
Next comes the water. For best taste, use filtered water, and if you are drip-boiling straight away, heat the water to somewhere between 195-205ºF before pouring into the machine.
If pouring is more your thing, buy reusable filters. The one I have is stainless steel and dishwasher safe. It pays off after just a few uses. You can make a richer iced coffee by doubling the amount of ground coffee and brewing it directly on ice. Thus, the finished product will not be diluted with ice, and it will become less bitter.
Finally, if your coffee is cold, do not put it in the microwave (this will release bitter compounds). Instead, pour chilled coffee over ice and turn it into a summer afternoon treat. For all of these tips and more, watch the video above.
