Check These Settings Before You Lose Your IPhone to Find It Later

Sucks when you lose your iPhone. Maybe you forgot it in the cafe, or it was stolen from the station. Fortunately, your iPhone can be easily tracked (as long as it is active and active). And if you already have a passcode turned on, Find My iPhone is automatically turned on. Here’s how to find your lost or stolen iPhone.

Find your lost iPhone with Find My

Once you realize you’ve lost your iPhone, the first thing you need to do is use the Find My iPhone service (formerly known as Find My iPhone).

Go to any computer and open icloud.com/find . Here, sign in with the same iCloud account you use on your iPhone. If you use Family Sharing with family members, you can also use the family member’s iPhone to track your device. Just open the Find My app and find your device.

After logging into the iCloud website in your browser, select the All Devices option at the top and select your iPhone. The map will show you the current location of your iPhone. If your iPhone is turned off, you will see the last known location of the device.

Now that you know where the iPhone is located, you can navigate to it. When you’re nearby, you can use the Play Sound option to play the sound on your iPhone to find it.

Recover your iPhone in Lost Mode

If your iPhone is turned off (or stolen), turning on Lost Mode is your last resort. Lost Mode locks your iPhone and does not receive notifications or messages. It also disables cards and IDs that are stored in the Wallet app. Lost Mode still allows you to receive incoming calls (including FaceTime calls) and continue to track your iPhone’s location.

Click the Lost Mode button to get started (this only works if you use a passcode on your iPhone). Here, enter the phone number and message you want to display on the iPhone so that if someone comes across your iPhone, they can contact you and possibly return your iPhone.

If your iPhone is stolen, there is nothing you can do other than file a complaint with your local government. We also recommend that you use the Erase iPhone feature to completely erase the iPhone’s memory (this happens when the iPhone goes back online). This way, at the very least, your personal information will be protected.

How to make sure you can find your lost iPhone

Find Me should be enabled by default, but it is worth testing it nonetheless to make sure it works. It’s better to find out now than to be surprised when you end up losing your phone.

Set a password

The entire Find Me feature does not work if you do not have a password. So, first go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode to set up your passcode and turn on Face ID or Touch ID. Even if someone happens to have your iPhone, they won’t be able to easily access your personal information.

Enable Find Me

Then make sure Find Me is turned on. Go to Settings and tap your profile at the top of the page. Here go to Find My > Find My iPhone and make sure Find My iPhone is turned on.

Turn on family sharing

If you already have family members using an iPhone, the best place to start is using the Family Sharing feature. Not only does it allow you to share Apple app purchases and services, but you can also track all devices connected to your Family Sharing account using the Find My app.
