How to Send Disappearing Photos and Videos to WhatsApp

Not all photos or videos should (or should) stay in your film strip forever. If you want to send photos that will open once and then disappear forever, you can now use WhatsApp for this (as you already did on Snapchat and Instagram).

WhatsApp now allows you to send any photo or video in the new “View once” mode. This is a simple feature and is not very customizable (for example, you cannot select a viewport for a photo). But as soon as the recipient opens and views the media, and then leaves it, the photo or video will disappear forever.

WhatsApp is not promoting this feature as a secure way to send photos, as WhatsApp won’t even notify you when another person takes a screenshot of your photo – which is what Snapchat and Instagram do. And using any application, the other person can always use the camera to take a picture of the screen itself. (Basically, don’t use this to send sensitive photos .)

But it can be a great way to quickly share photos with your shopping list, itinerary for the day, or even passwords.

How to send disappearing messages on WhatsApp

First, make sure you are using the latest version of WhatsApp. Then either take a new photo to share or add a photo from your library. When you preview your photo, you will see a small “ 1 ” icon with a circle around it in the caption box. Just click on it to activate the “Single View” mode. Then click the ” Submit” button.

When you get a photo using Preview Once, you will only see the word Photo in it, no preview. Click the Photos button to view your media.

There will be no Snapchat-style timer counting down your window until the image is viewed; you can look at it as much as you like. But once you hit the Back button, you won’t be able to see it again.
