What’s New at Disney + August 2021
It’s no surprise given that Loki’s season has just ended, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe is indeed doubling down on the concept of a “multiverse” ahead of Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness next year . When looking for evidence, look no further than the premiere of the next MCU series on Disney Plus, an animated show that asks, well, what if …?
The show takes its name from an episodic series of comic book anthologies published by Marvel since 1977 . On the ” What if …?” allows writers to explore wacky concepts that don’t fit into Marvel’s integrity but are too interesting to ignore – what if Thanos joins the Avengers? If recent history is any indication , the new series will likely approach things with a lot of focus on the future MCU, but the trailer still promises some wacky ideas: Peggy Carter as a British response to Captain America? T’Challa as Star-Lord? What if really. Plus, Disney Plus has a quiet month right now, with the biggest challenge being Cruella’s regular streaming premiere (August 27).
