Use This Site to Find the Cheapest and Fastest Way to Ship Your Package.

Unless your job involves high volume shipping, it can be difficult to know which service best suits your needs and your budget. UPS may be cheaper in some parts of the country than others, depending on the type of package you need to send. Or perhaps FedEx is offering better rates for overnight delivery to your destination.

The problem with all purchases is that it takes a long time. And this is not the case when you can find something once and then get all the necessary shipping information in the future. This is where an online shipping calculator comes in handy. Here’s what it does and how to use the site.

What is an online shipping calculator?

The online shipping calculator website first hit our radar via the Recomendo newsletter, where post author Claudia Dawson shared her secret to getting the best rates and / or the fastest shipping options. It works like most price comparison sites, providing users with a quick estimate of shipping costs from multiple carriers. And it’s free to use.

One of the perks of an online shipping calculator is that it also provides information on different discounts for each carrier and includes them in their price quotes. These include:

How to use the online shipping calculator

The process is pretty straightforward and similar to other price comparison sites, but here are the directions indicated in the online shipping calculator:

  • Start entering the postal code of the departure country or city name in the From city field. Choose one of the autocomplete options.
  • Do the same for the “To the city” field. This field is intended for the destination city of the parcel.
  • After filling in the cities, enter the length, height, width and weight of your parcel. The default units can be changed using the drop-down menus.
  • Click the Get Bets button.
  • The button will be active only when you fill in all the fields. It may take about 10 seconds or more to calculate and receive shipping costs.

New additional information? The site also has this comprehensive (and really helpful) FAQ page for reference.
