Check Your Refrigerator for These Famous Vegan Egg Products
Chicken eggs are not suitable for all vegans and people with egg allergies, and this is where plant-based egg products come to the rescue. But if you have some of them in the fridge, it’s a good idea to check the label because there has been a lot of voluntary recall of products made with egg-flavored vegan products. Here’s what you need to know.
Which vegan egg products are responding to?
The egg-free eggs in question are supplied by Cuisine Solutions in Sterling, Virginia, which makes JUST Egg products, including plant-based egg-flavored “chunks” that are voluntarily recalled. Reason for revocation? Unreported allergens, according to a company announcement issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In particular, a limited number of two-pouch retail packs may contain an improperly sealed pouch containing whole eggs and dairy products.
The good news is that the inner plastic bags are properly labeled so they are easy to spot if they contain milk and eggs. This is especially important for people who are allergic or hypersensitive to milk or eggs, as they risk a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these foods.
What to do if you think about vegan eggs
In addition to labeling the bags, you should also check the expiration date. The famous plant-based egg-flavored “bites” are available in 8.4-ounce packs and have an expiration date of February 22 to April 9, 2022. The expiration date is indicated on the back of the package.
That’s a pretty sizable review, with about 80,632 boxes of flavors – including America Inspired, Japan Inspired, India Inspired, and Mexico Inspired – distributed across the country. Fortunately, so far, only one bad package has been detected and there have been no reported adverse reactions.
