How to Make Your Home Look Like a Hotel (in a Good Way)
Although people travel more now than they did six months ago, not everyone can take a few days off and unwind in a hotel. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some of the best design choices that hotels have to offer. In an article for BobVila.com, Miranda Sivak shares some tips on how to transform your home into a serene, elite getaway place. Here are some of her suggestions.
Window treatment
Hotels generally use two types of windows: blackout curtains and then either sheer curtains or adjustable curtains. This gives you the ability to sleep in complete darkness, as well as open windows during the day (using sheer curtains) and maintain some privacy. Installing a similar device in your bedroom at home is a relatively simple and inexpensive way to get deep sleep in a hotel that doesn’t bother you.
Get symmetrical
As humans, we are fans of symmetry, and this is what we get in a hotel room. Not only is it pleasing to the eye, Sivak says a symmetrical room can feel more welcoming. “For example, to enhance a calming aesthetic, they typically install identical bedside tables, each with a lamp, on either side of the bed or sofa,” she writes.
Create a mini living room
Most hotel rooms have seating areas that can be used for anything from entertaining visitors to working remotely to flopping down while you’re still wearing your outerwear. It also gives you a place to spend time in your bedroom rather than on your bed – for example, if you prefer to work or read alone, but don’t necessarily go to bed. Per Sivak :
You, too, can create a hotel atmosphere by setting up an intimate seating area in your bedroom or living room. Additional seating in a room is also a great way to add texture and pattern to a space for visual interest.
