The 25 Best Fictional Fathers in Film History

It’s Father’s Day again, which means you see advertisements for all kinds of gifts your dad might like : stupid golf balls; knives that open to reveal other knives; ties covered with images of hot dogs and soccer balls. Maybe you know a father who likes it all. Maybe your dad likes it all. But fathers and fathers come in all shapes and sizes, and sometimes they have interests other than bourbon and barbecue.

Films don’t always serve the cause of diversity among fathers, showing the same outdated stereotypes over and over again. But there are some really impressive images too: touching, funny, caring, sometimes a little confused, but trying their best with what they have to work with. That’s all you can ask any parent.

Maybe you’re looking for something to do with your dad this weekend, or maybe you just want to spend some time with a fantastic dad you never had. Both are possible. Anyway: Pour in some bourbon, sprinkle bacon on something that normally doesn’t contain bacon, and check out some of these iconic fathers from movie history.
