Top 35 Summer Blockbusters Over the Past 20 Years

Remember the cinemas? Remember the cinemas in the summer ? It’s been a long time (463 days at the time of this writing) since I last sat in a large darkened room with strangers to experience some epic big-screen entertainment ( in this case, Cats ). I sincerely hope to do it again soon, but unfortunately I do not know if this will happen this summer as I would like to wait to do this until my children are vaccinated. And it’s a shame, because there is nothing better than seeking a respite from the harsh summer heat in the cold confines of a movie theater – especially if you come here to watch something big, loud and over the top. Ever since Jaws made people fearful of going back into the water in 1975, summer has been considered a prime movie season, at least because of the particular taste of the film: usually loud, often thrill-heavy, and most likely loaded with special effects … … Summer blockbusters have a reputation for being silly and superficial; While this is not necessarily the case, it is certainly true that defining examples of form prefer to amaze you with a spectacle rather than make you think (not that there is anything wrong with that). With Fast 9 coming up in the US (which is definitely going to be very loud and guaranteed to be more enjoyable the less you think while watching it), Lifehacker staff are sharing our favorite summer blockbusters from the past 20 years. The film does not have to be at the top of the box office (although most of them did) or release during what is strictly defined as summer on the calendar to count – I think we can all agree as far as films, the high season starts in May and ends in August.
