Throw a Welcome Summer Party for Your Kids After One Hell of a School Year

Children are always happy with the end of the school year, because there are weeks of freedom ahead of them. But I think it’s safe to say that they are particularly eager to drop out of school this year – along with their Chromebooks and masks – to the sidelines. It’s time to celebrate everything they’ve survived this school year by hosting the biggest Welcome Summer party you’ve ever had.

I always love to find a reason to celebrate , which is why I first made the banner in the photo above two years ago, at the end of my son’s second year – an idea I originally took from this post about children . That year, when he came home from school on the last day, I opened the door and let him run in. He applauded as he leafed through the newspaper, and it was like the official start of summer.

Even last year, after a school year that ended with a whimper rather than a bang, I figured we could do something to celebrate. Of course, all of his summer camps and vacations were systematically canceled one by one, but at least he hadn’t heard the word “Zoom” for several months and it was worth celebrating. So a banner was placed on the back door so that it could pop out into the backyard – where I installed a kid’s archery kit that I bought him and an inflatable pool that I was able to hammer in (after hours of searching online).

If in previous years it was worth celebrating graduation, then it is definitely worth celebrating this year after a whole year, what their particular version of hell looked like. It might be comfortable for you to invite a few of their friends, depending on whether they are old enough to be fully vaccinated or everyone wants to stay outside and wear masks, but even if it’s just you and the little ones, it’s still a holiday. to. Here are some more Welcome to Summer party ideas:

  • Hang balloons and / or streamers around your home or backyard.
  • Have a backyard picnic or your favorite meal for dinner
  • Remove dust and take out old summer toys or garden games.
  • Surprise them with some new summer treats or toys such as bubbles, water balloons, or water arrows.
  • Set up an obstacle course in your backyard
  • Put on the music and have a dance party
  • Have a water fight (as a bonus, this is a good stress reliever for the whole family)

And even if your children have already completed their studies for a year, it is not too late. Pick the next warm, sunny day and throw a party to celebrate the end of the funniest school year of their lives.
